KARACHI: Former Pakistan Test batsman and ex-chairman of the national selection committee Mohsin Khan will hold media conference here on Thursday to lodge his protest at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s appointment of Waqar Younis as the national team’s head coach.
When Dawn contacted Mohsin, who as the interim head coach helped Pakistan complete a 3-0 clean-sweep against the then world No 1 Test side England in the United Arab Emirates in early 2012, refused to comment on the PCB’s decision to name Waqar for a second term.
“Everyone will know about my feelings [about the PCB decision] during the media briefing which I intend to hold tomorrow. Before that I think it would be premature for me to make any comment,” Mohsin said.
“All I can say at this stage is I had applied for the post when the PCB advertised for the head coach along with other [support staff] positions. But the board opted to ignore the process it had laid down for the appointment.”
The media conference is scheduled to be held at the Karachi Club Annexe at 4:30pm.
APP adds: Former Pakistan Test off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, who had also applied for the chief coach as well as bowling coach, wished Waqar good luck in assignment. “To be honest I have no idea because no one called me for interview.”
