Two injured by Indian shelling

MUZAFFARABAD: A girl and an elderly woman were injured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday in shelling by Indian troops from across the Line of Control (LoC), officials and residents said.

The casualties occurred in two villages of Nakial sector in the Kotli district.

Haji Azad, a resident of Nakial sector, said by telephone that shelling began at 9pm on Monday night and continued till 3am, during which Jabar, Dheri, Dabsi, Lakhnal and Lanjot villages were targeted. But there was no loss in overnight shelling.

He said Indian troops resumed shelling at about 8am, using mortar guns.

Kotli Deputy Commissioner Masoodur Rehman confirmed that shelling was severe and had caused two casualties. He identified the victims as Nasrin, 17, of Dheri village, and Naseem Bibi, 50, wife of Mohammad Yousuf of Lanjot village.
