KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has directed CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to re-invite former allies, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), to join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the Sindh provincial government.

Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at the Bilawal House on Saturday, accompanied by other leaders of the PPP.

“The process of reconciliation that had been started should continue,” said President Zardari. “Rather than facing the situation alone, it is better to unite and brave the challenges together.”

“We (PPP) have accepted the poll results in protest despite our reservations. It goes to the PPP’s credit that it conducted timely elections after a five-year government tenure, and ensured a peaceful transition of power to the newly democratic government,” said Zardari.

The meeting also discussed matters pertaining to the law order situation, developmental works in the province, as well as the upcoming budget.

Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, Manzoor Wasan, Sharjeel Memon, Nisar Khuhro, and Dr Sikandar Mendro, among others, also attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, President Zardari also telephoned Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Pervez Khattak and congratulated him on taking oath of his office.

Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said the President wished Pervez Khattak well in the discharge of his responsibilities as Chief Minister, and in this regard extended him full support.
