KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon has said that the Inspector General (IG) Police, Sindh has been given ‘freehand’ for restoring peace in Karachi, DawnNews reported.
Memon said this during a briefing following the first session of the Sindh cabinet on Saturday. He informed that a decision was also taken regarding the induction of 7,500 policemen in the police department.
On the subject of target killings in Karachi, Memon said that the Station House Officer (SHO) of any area where target killings took place would be suspended.
Memon alleged that the caretaker government allowed unlawful appointments in the police department, adding that a committee has been formed to investigate into the issue.
Memon also said that a large part of the upcoming Sindh provincial budget will be reserved for law and order.
Karachi Circular Railway to be revived
During the Sindh cabinet session, it was decided that the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) would be revived.
Furthermore, it was decided that a fleet of 200 new buses would be introduced in order to improve transportation in the city.
